The SAPS Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit appeals for community assistance in locating a 38-year-old Chinese National victim who was kidnapped earlier today, April 8, in Gqeberha.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, at approximately 05:39 the victim was allegedly travelling on the M19 en route to his business in Kariega, after he returned from the fresh produce market. As he was approaching the M17 turnoff, a white Toyota Quantum minibus was parked across the road.
“Shots were fired at the vehicle. The driver (victim) of a white Toyota Fortuner came to a stop. Three unknown suspects approached the vehicle, took the victim out of the vehicle and forced him into the minibus and drove off. No one else was injured during the kidnapping,” she said.
Janse Van Rensburg added that no ransom has been demanded as yet and a case of attempted murder and kidnapping was opened by SAPS Swartkops. She stated that the matter is being investigated by SAPS Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit.
