SAPS have released the name of the pedestrian killed in a tragic incident in Summerstrand on Sunday, March 23. Gregory Ioannou (44) was walking his dog when he was fatally struck by a vehicle.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, at approximately 08:00, Loannou was on the pavement when the driver of a grey VW Polo lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with a streetlight before knocking Ioannou, who died at the scene.
Janse Van Rensburg said, “The suspect, aged 25, has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.”
The driver is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court during the week as the investigation continues.
